Summer Fashion Tips for the Fuller Figure

After months wrapped under layers of knitwear the arrival or the spring/summer season gives ladies the chance to have a little more fun when it comes to fashion. If you want to pick out your must-haves for the coming season, here are some tips for which items of plus size women’s clothing to look out for: 
Maxi dresses were the dress of 2010 and love them or loathe them, they are making a return this year. Be careful not to swamp yourself in shapeless styles and instead look for styles with crossover detailing at the top or v-necks. If you want to add even more shape to your silhouette try breaking up the long dress with a belt.

Kaftans are perfect cover-ups for the beach. They are most often more comfortable than a sarong and many come belted so you can cinch them in at the waist. Non-sheer kaftans and tunic dresses are also a great choice for nights out – particularly abroad. Choose large floral or ethnic prints with gold or bronze detailing to set off your tan.

Tea dresses are a super cute option for summer and floral numbers in all fabrics this season. Look for cottons to stay cool or chiffons for nights out. If you are shy about showing your legs team with leggings and sandals for a more casual look.

Denim jackets are a perfect classic coverup for spring and summer and fit snugly into this year’s love for all things seventies. Wear faded denim with floral dresses for a perfect bohemian festival look.

Colour is bright and beautiful this season, however blocking can be an unforgiving look because it draws the eye to the point at which the colours contrast which is usually where a top ends and a skirt begins (ie. your waist). If you want to minimize this area opt for colors which complement each other rather than strongly contrast – but don’t be afraid to try louder shades, colour is for everyone to play with.

Prints aren’t just about flowers come springtime. Fruit inspired prints are everywhere on clothes and accessories and animal prints also have a part to play. But before you reach for your leopard print jacket, take note that this season animal prints have diversified, so look out for more unusual prints like zebra and giraffe instead.
