Making my way back

Today was my first day back on the job!  I was out for 2 weeks after my surgery, which was mid-level surgery, nothing major or life threatening – thank the Lord.

Thank you ladies for all of your well wishes, it was very thoughtful and I appreciated all of the support.

I’m doing well and I’m recuperating pretty well.  I have to give credit to God of course, I made it through the surgery and the anesthesia (which I was very nervous about) since I’ve never had surgery before.   I contribute my healthiness to all the wonderful, natural herbs I was taking prior to the surgery and afterward that help me to rebound and get back on the job in a reasonable amount of time.

I hope everybody is having a great week and don’t forget to enter the ShopBop $100 Giveaway below which will run for another week.

Back to Basics

This is my last outfit post for a minute, I will be out having surgery tomorrow.  I will  however, be posting a shopping haul later next week.

I might try and do the haul as a  video but I’m not sure how to work my new camera.  I guess I could figure it out now that I will be house bound for two weeks.  I’ll give it a shot and see how things work out.

When time permits as I mentioned in my previous post I also plan on doing a handbag buying guide for women who are 5’4 and  under, and I have  a giveaway coming up.  So I still plan on posting but will refrain from the outfit posting for at least two weeks until the doctor says I can be on my feet again (in heels).

Ponte Knit Pencil Skirt  -  Express
Bag- Michael Kors “Hamilton” Small Tote
 Faux Snakeskin Belt – NY&Co
 Yellow Pumps  - Aldo Shoes

A quick rundown on my bargains am wearings.  I got the blazer at KG Warehouse for $10 off the clearance rack, the skirt is from Express, I got it was $25 using a printable coupon.I hope everybody has a great week!

I’ve really been getting into the color blocking trend lately, right up to my handbag!  I found this amazing bag at Handbag Heaven and I thought it would work perfectly with all my outfit this summer.  I love the briefcase look to it and the fact that it has a short handle and a shoulder strap if you want to rock it as a shoulder bag.  Handbag Heaven is currently having a 15% sitewide sale so you do get a extra discount right now.

What I’ve come to realize over the years is when you’re short in statue (like I’m) you can’t buy long handle bags.  I’m always on the hunt for briefcase style bag, satchel with short handles with a shoulder strap option.  I’ve come across some really great bags that I’ve had to pass up because the strap was too long and the bag would have been dragging on the floor.

When time permits I plan on doing a handbag buying guide for women who are 5’4 and  under, so stay on the look out for that.

I’ll be posting one or two more pictures before I’m out for a while.  I’m having surgery this Thursday and I won’t be able to post outfit pictures for a few weeks as I will have to stay off my feet.  However, I will probably post some of the summer pieces I hope to purchase and a recent shopping haul of deals I picked up this weekend.

I hope everybody has a great week!

Bringing in More Bold Colors

I was buying some towels in Tarjay last week and I saw that they marked down the nude platforms I’d been eyeing to $20 from $29.  Perfect!

I paired them up with some colorful pieces to wear to work.  I think one of my best find’s last month was two felt obi belts I found at a Junior store for $7.50.  I got the tangerine and brown belt and it just so happened that the tangerine belt matched my cardigan to a tee!

What was some of your best fashions finds last month?

Color Block Shift Dress

I love the new full-on colorblock trend this season!  It’s actually been out for at least three seasons now, but you know how long it takes for runway trends to hit consumers in the retail stores.

I found this dress is Marshall’s for $29 and I love it because it’s a flowly stretch fabric that works well for me right now since my weight is up.  I’m having surgery in a few weeks, so I want to keep my weight up right now because I know I will lose weight after the surgery and I don’t want to look crackhead crazy.

The fabric on this dress is perfect because I can always belt-it up and it would still work even after I lose weight. It’s a dress you can work with if you’re up or down a few pounds with the right waist cincher (an obi belt would be spot on).

I think they are selling a similar dress like this at NY&Company, anyway I really like this trend, so expect to see more dresses like this from me.

Just Checking In

I haven’t felt like posting pics lately because one, I’ve been extra busy and two I haven’t really been buying any clothes because my weight is up right now.  I go through these period when I’m  not interested in clothing and would much rather go furniture shopping or dig into a books I’ve recently purchased; that’s  how I’ve been feeling lately.  I’m read a very interesting book “Harlem: The Making of  Ghetto”   which gets into how urban community in the North were started prior to  World War I.

I still haven’t figured out how to use my new camera, yet.  I must admit I haven’t really been putting any time into  it.  So it back to old reliable Canon A80, its easy and convenient right now and it still takes good picture.

I know am dressed kinda crazy right now because I’m wearing a trench with sandals, go figure.  I’m just having a moment alright, alright.    I got this trench at Old Navy for $15 dollars and I got the lucite and black strap sandals (which I love) for $24 at a local junior store.  Both were really good deals and I love, love, love  the metallic mixed colored clutch I got from Catos.  I’m really building up my clutch collection.  I’ll have to do a post about that soon.  I hope everybody has a great week!

Bold Colored Jean – Part II

I got the bug!   I bought another part of colored jeans.  I’m going to wait before I buy any more because I need to lose some weight.  I believe I’m still having thyroid issues because I’m still battling issues with my hair and now with my weight.  So I’m going between my holistic doctor and a dermatologist, because something in my body is still off!  Anyway, I don’t want to go down that road in this post.I decided to get away from the stress of my constant hair and weight issues and just get out and relax and take some of the edge off; so I went with one of my co-workers Saturday night to play…guess what….BINGO! I had a great time and I honestly  forgot just how much fun it was to play.  Definitely need to do this more often!

I also just recently found out about on-line Bingo, so I definitely want to check that out, I love the game and when I can’t make it out, I can always relieve a little stress by playing on-line. I think playing online is somewhat different from the regular Bingo you can play at your local church or at a bingo hall, but once you try it, you’re enjoy playing it.

I’m sure my co-worker is always hip to this, but I thought I mention it to him anyway, he’s probably way ahead of me on that one.

Even though the weather has been pretty nice, you still need a jacket, so I been rocking this cape quite a bit.  I bought it for like $20.  I love it! It’s lined and surprisingly warm as well.  I’m trying not to purchase any more clothes until I get my weight under control, but I have to get the other health issue in check first, seems like I can’t concentrate on weight loss until my body is back to normal.

The Trend: Bright & Bold Colored Jeans

Yes, this trend is hot right now.   Color is making a hellva come-back and I say “it’s about time’!  There were quite a few bloggers before this trend who really embraced color, no they were not scare and they ramped it up without fear. Culturecynic being one of them. Love, love, love her use of bold colors and vibrant prints!

Why do we wait for trends sometimes before we get out of our comfort zone?

Neutrals have it place but I’ll always be drawn to bold, bright vibrant color that wakes my spirit up!  So I’m working on several pairs of bold colored jeans and pants. New York & Company is on the list as Old Navy.  Colored blazers are also on the list.

Red Jeans -  Guess via Macy’s
White Woven Bag – Gryson for Target
Color Block Platforms – Target

Even though the weather was not that great today, extra cloudy….the temperature was very mild, so I hit the stores and found a few two-tone clutches.  Two with a solid and animal print mix and the other with a nice color-box mix.  I found a few a Target, but they seem a bit too small. I tend to like the XL oversized clutch, so I got room for all my stuff, may have just have to do a d.i.y. so I can get what I want.
