This post is for the more mature women who visit this blog. I don’t know what it is but right around my early forties I started bruising very easily.

Every time I would bump into something or knock myself up against something by mistake, the next day I would have a horrible black and blue mark. I honestly don’t remember bruising as much when I was younger. I know I’m not the only fortysomething experiencing this. I have to make sure I keep up with my eye exams because after 40 (along with years of looking at a computer screen) my eyesight has gone to the dogs! I bump into stuff real easy. I’ve become farsighted. Can’t read the clothing tags anymore without my glasses, ladies. (lol)

It’s hell getting old.

But at least we are wiser! Now on a serious note, if these bruises are something that has started recently and you don’t remember bumping into anything go and see your doctor. Just to be on the safe side. This was the only thing a lady at our office noticed before she was diagnosed with something that needed immediate attention. Don’t want to alarm you as it is probably nothing, but just in case….

@ Vicki – Thank you, think I’m going to make an appointment with my doctor. I asked my sister who is forty and she get small bruises but nothing major. When I bump into something I get huge black and blue marks like I’ve been in a car accident or something. I also remember that after I lost a lot of weight 4 years ago, I started bruises more often.

I just discovered you blog and I am just want to say that I am now addicted to it. lol. I am in planning on going shopping after Christmas, to take advantage of the end of the season sales. I like seeing where you job (I don’t want to steal your style) so I can hit up new stores for cloths. I also like seeing how you pull together outfits, cause I also in the middle of trying new things in terms of my style. You have given me so many great ideas. Thank you for all your hard work! :o)

    Love the outfit!

RE: the bruises. I also have bruises all over from every little bump. I am not quite to my 40s though. I checked with my doctor because I am quite adept at using Dr. Google to diagnose myself with all manner of crazy diseases. Anyway, he said that it is because I take ibuprofen on pretty much a regular basis for back pain, headache, workout pain, etc… He said it makes you bruise easily.

Hopefully your bruises are also something as simple.

  5. Well bruise or not you look Hot! I am loving it here! I will certainly be back.

  6. Anusha says:

I second the getting a doctor’s opinion on the bruising too. Both my mom and grandma bruise very badly for even the slightest bumping on anything, but they’ve been that way all their lives. If that’s happening to you only now, best get it checked.

That said, your belt is to die for! With those shoes the whole thing is just perfect.

  7. Nadine says:

    I love your wonderful belt!

  8. Alyssia says:

You are gorgeous =) no homo LOL

I’m gonna send my mom to your blog to get a few ideas, You are sooo chic! The jacket, the belt, and that clutch!!! I love this outfit! I might have to “re-create” this look lol.

@ Corey and Anusha – I made a appoint w/ my doctor. Ya’ll don’t be scaring me because you know after 40 every damn thing is the world is wrong with you.

@ Alyssia – LOL @ no homo. I understand girl! Thank you for your gracious compliment. All that stuff for the most part is from F21 so its cheap and I know if anybody wanted to re-create that look for themselves – they could do that very easily.

I try to buy from stores that I know women will be able to find the items, instead of doing all vintage like some bloggers — you like the look, but you can’t readily buy it, that can be frustrating!

That is crazy, I was just telling my husband this exact thing the other day. I was saying how my body doesn’t recover as quickly as it used to. 2 months and counting and I’ll be the big 3 – 7! Wow, I feel good, but there is no fooling my body!

    • Profile photo of Budget Chic Budget Chic says:

@ Kim – Kimmie we are just on a slipping slope to old age  It’s all good though! I’m enjoying all of my pre-senior moments

      @ Lady D – thank you sweetie!

  10. Kim Brown says:

That belt is working for you too!

  11. *Lady D* says:

Man you look Fierce!!!! Love everything about this outfit!

  12. tanyetta says:

I can relate to the bruising. I have hip length bed posts and at least once a month I bump into it in the middle of my bathroom run. The bruises are GREEN!

The outfit??????? ALWAYS on POINT ;)

  13. Londyn says:

Love this look (as I always love all of your looks!)

Can I just tell you how AMAZING your style and looks are! You look mid-twenties if you look a day :)

  14. rm says:

    the shoes in action!

    they look great.

i bruise easily too, but my mom always told me it was because i don’t get enough iron (which is true; it also causes my hair to fall out a lot easier. i found out that my mom wasn’t making things up when i tried to donate blood a few months ago and my hemoglobin was too low). so maybe check that with your dr. too?

  15. Mommyof2 says:

One of my favorite looks from you.
    : )

  16. LuckywithFashion says:

Killer outfit and am drooling over that belt!

  17. Marie says:

Yes, I can totally relate to this. I am 46 years old and sometimes my legs look like a road map! *sigh* Oh well, this is why I wear pants 99% of the time; I hate stockings too. The older I get the more comfortable I want to feel. I sound “old farty” now…LOL

    • Profile photo of Budget Chic Budget Chic says:

@ Marie – Hello fellow fortysomething diva! Definitely not! I hate wearing nylon pantyhoses. I don’t wear them period. A lady in my congregation shook her little finger at me for that, but I gotta be comfortable! I only wear fashionable colored stocking or black hosiery with a pattern to them. Can’t stand sheer pantyhose they itch something awful!

  18. Mommyof2 says:

Girlfriend you ROCK! I never would have guessed your real age.. you can dress your butt off!
I love the fact that you shop at Ross, F21 etc, that goes to show that fashion can come from anywhere and still look age appropriate depending on the fashionista that puts it all together. Im 28 yrs old (bday 12/18/2008) and I dress similar to yourstyle. Although its hard sometimes because I dont want to dress like my younger sisters (21,19,18 & 17) I have to be very wise about the pieces that I pick up from these stores.
You go GIRL!!! keep up the good work with this site. I LOVE UR STYLE!!

    • Profile photo of Budget Chic Budget Chic says:

@ mommyof2 – Wow, you are blessed to have 4 sisters. Whatever you are comfortable with, I like to purchase things that makes me feel excited and happy. I believe fashion should heighten ones self confidence and zest for life!

Amazing style… and I’m loving the clutch.
    The color is gorgeous.

  20. Fab50Plus says:

The whole bruising thing didn’t start for me until I hit 50 – and yes it was a WTF experience! Mostly because I was never bruise prone in my younger days.

All that aside…Fabulous outfit! I especially love the belt with the jacket – not an easy look to pull off but you wear it well (to quote Rod Stewart! ;-) ).

  21. lenya jones says:

Well Ms, you look great for being over 40. I’m so glad I discovered your blog.

  22. Psyche says:

I can’t even see past the fabulous looks to see that bruise at all!! Wow!

  23. busybodyk says:

love the shoes! I have never bought shoes from Forever 21 and I have narrow feet too. Do you have to go up or down a size? I’m an 8 1/2…..

    • Profile photo of Budget Chic Budget Chic says:

@ busybodyk – it ran true to size for me (my feet are semi-narrow). But I have to warn you if you purchase them……

I got some extensive work done to these shoe at the Shoe Repair Shop. I had a rubberized sole applied to the bottom on the foot of the heel, because the material they made the heel plate out of is cheap and will wear out in no time. So I had my guy add a custom rubberized sole and small lifts to the front. I also had him add the ankle-straps and I applied a seambidding glue to the edges of the ruffles so they would not unravel and look stringy. Don’t know if would be worth it to add an extra $25 to the cost of the shoe for reinforcement, but it was worth it to me because I fell in love with these shoes. They are now one of my most favorite possessions.
