Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day, to all the hardworking moms out here.

I had a great day with my son, we went to the dinner and movies and my baby brought me a fruit  basket from edible arrangements, my kid really went all out this year. He had the biggest smile on his face when he gave me that fruit basket and of course I let him know how happy I was with my wonderful gift. It was a amazing day.  We had the best time at the movies.  I love Sci-Fi movies so we saw Oblivion with Tom Cruise; there was like only 5 people in the whole theatre including us so we were able to talk and try to determine the plot, without worrying about disturbing other people around us.  Lots of great Sci-Fi movies coming out this summer by the way (Startek 2, After Earth, Man of Steel).

We were chilling and tossing that popcorn in the air, lol. It was a simple Mother’s Day but it was great to spend quality time and just chill with my son, especially since he has adult responsibilities, we don’t get to do that as much.    I hope all the other moms out there as a great a day as I had.

I hope that everybody enjoyed their special days with family and friends.

Weight Loss and No more HRT

Hello Ladies, I know it’s been a while since I did an outfit post.  I hope to get back into my routine this month.  I have been busy with some other issues, one of them is changing my diet and concentrating  on health and weight loss.  I really did not want to take any pictures at my previous weight because I felt and looked like a stuff sausage.  2012 was not a good year for me in terms of my weight, but 2013 is looking much, much better.

I’ve lost about 12 pounds with another 4 pounds to go to get to my goal.  I’m feeling pretty good and am able to get back into just about all of my clothes.

I changed my diet and now am on an anti-fungal, anti-yeast regime.  I’m having a lot of success  with that approach in terms of the weight loss and I feel better as well.  I also decided to get off of the bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (HRT).  I  felt like hey, I’m just going to let my body do what it wants to do naturally and not try to mimic my body’s hormone production.  I also got sick of applying those creams, it was getting on my nerves,  one more thing (among many) I had to try and keep up with.  I decided it was better to try and alter my diet with a yeast, fungal and gluten free diet of all organic foods.

Oh, I also cut my hair because I was tired of the long tresses and wanted to be able to wash and manage my hair in less time.  I like it and plan on keeping it at this length, since it so much easier to deal with.

I hope everybody has a great week!

Design your Own T-Shirt on a Budget

tshirtI have seriously thought about designing my own T-shirt. I wanted something unique to wear to a causal event. Something funky and fun to throw on with a pair of jeans that was a one-of-kind design. I had a few drawings in a graphic program that I created into a high resolution web graphic that I wanted to create a t-shirt with. I felt the most budget friendly way to this was to create a t-shirt from a custom design website.

Ordering and creating a custom shirt on-line has become very easy with the new user-friendly interface, it also easier to upload images and select sizing and lettering size and color. Many custom shirt website offer a wide selection of t-shirts, polo shirts and regular dress shirts for men and women. What’s ever better for the budget conscious person is you no longer have to order a large quantities of shirt to get a good price. You can custom design a shirt for a little as $25.00 with delivery charges included. One of better custom shirts website that offer affordable pricing: Check out custom shirts at Shirtinator.

In the mood for a little uniqueness, want to design your own shirt? Well check them out!

Ban Genetically Modified Foods from your Home

Great documentary about the real harm of GMO foods on our grocery store shelves. If you are not familiar with what’s every major food brand is poisoning you with or the ammonia sprayed beef in fast food hamburgers. You definitely need to education yourself on the factory, profit driven world of Big Corporate food conglomerates. A good place to start is this documentary and the documentary Food, Inc.

Ashley Manadell Dining Room Server

I was looking for a buffet/server for my dining room set. I liked the one that goes with my set but it was a little on the small side and it had the wine rack on the bottom of the server, which I really didn’t care for, plus the price wasn’t right. I did find a local furniture store that was able to order it for me for less than what it sells for on-line. However, I decided to keep looking because I really wanted something a little wider. I went to the Ashley Furniture Outlet and found exactly what I was looking for. They had the perfect server and I was able to talk the guy down to $225.00. The cheapest price I saw for this server on-line, I think was $470.00 on sales. Retail is $750.00.  It has the same buttermilk color and acorn style legs as my dining room set, so it will blend well with what I already have.  So happy I got a good price!

The Military Jacket

Finally coped a military jacket.  Wanted to add one to my wardrobe and this one from Forever 21 for $40 worked out just fine.  I plan to pair this with a white eyelet dress when Spring breaks.  I think the contrast will look amazing, or maybe a floral, high-low dress with a woven belt.

I also want to get a camo jacket, that ought to do it on the military look front.  I bought some great beaded crest patches to sew on this jacket, just waiting for it to come in the mail.  I’m going to sew the patches on this jacket as well as a denim jacket I got on clearance for $9.  I remember having a denim jacket back in the 80s covered with beaded military insignia and crest logos, so I figured I do a retro throwback look on both jackets.

D.I.Y. Hydrangea Floral Arrangements

Okay Ladies, I’m sure most of you know how expensive floral arrangements can be. The more flowers within the arrangement, the more you spend.

So I decided to just try and make my own by watching out for half off sales on floral stems at Joann’s Craft, Hobby Lobby and supplementing the minor pieces within the arrangement from the Dollar Tree.

I picked up the green foam cubes, floral moss, black river rocks, onion grass sprays and some of the taller floral sprays that I built up in the back of the arrangements  from the Dollar Tree.  I purchased the better quality hydrangeas and other floral stems from Hobby Lobby and Joann’s Craft when they had their 50% off sale.  I was able to revamp the dining room arrangement with several hydrangea to make the arrangement more lush.

Hydrangeas are a great way of building up an arrangement without spending a lot of money. You only need 2 to 6 of these stems to make a great full arrangement as oppose to smaller blooms like roses. It took me all of 25 minutes to do each arrangement.

Mickey Mouse and a Pencil Skirt

Oh, I just decided to regress today on purpose and get real juvenile in my dressing, LOL.  Actually this is pretty cool little t-shirt I picked up at Wally World on clearance for $5.  After I rock this I’ll give it to my niece (who probably won’t even want it, she is so particular).  I really like the look, its really playful and give this outfit a little edge.I’ve actually seen this look around the internet.  I thought it was kind of funky and quirky, which is a style I easily gravitate to, I think next time I will rock this with a striped lightweight sweater or a sweater with some type of geometric design.  My boyfriend loved this look however, so I got some cool point from him on this one. I think its a great way to dress up a t-shirt or sweatershirt and be comfortable but still stylish.  I think I’ll call it Comfy Chic.  I like the combination of super casual gear with more dressier pieces, things that don’t make any sense, but it works.

Mickey is universal fashion. LOL.  Everybody loves the character and am no exception.  I rocking my mickey and I love it!!

Funky Little Afro Top

I needed some fun casual tops to wear with my jeans or just pair up with a skirt and do something a little different for my weekend wear.

So I hit up some Junior stores in my area and I found this really fun and adorable afro top. It’s a  pretty easy to wear slipover, that you can layer if you choose.  The back of the top is sweatershirt gray.  I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and the price was right up my alley.  There was also a white afropuff t-shirt I really wanted but they didn’t have any more in my size. I like the quirkiness of it, it has raised red curly hair.     This top cost me all of $15.

I also found another gem to add to my clutch collection.  This is an amazing emerald green clutch with silver studs.  This clutch has already turned out to be one my work horse staples.  I’ve used this clutch several times since I purchased it a month ago for $13 on clearance.

I hope everybody has a terrific weekend!
